The Institute for Sustainable Development is a new membership organization and a partnership of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce, the Duke Center for International Development, the Fenwick Foundation, the Foundation for a Sustainable Community, the UNC-Chapel Hill Center for Global Initiatives and the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Social Work.

The Institute's mission is to capture, create and transfer knowledge and application of best practices in sustainability in order to influence sustainable development research, policy, and practice. The Institute will accomplish its mission through educational initiatives, skills-based workshops, an annual conference, networking events and a certified sustainable metric. Through these programs, the Institute will connect students to international development organizations, local community development organizations, and businesses in the greater Triangle community that are engaged on a local and global level.
